PictureMap provides the means to build and use communication pages that are typically created by a speech language pathologist on behalf of a client. The PictureMap Editor is a Windows based application to create the pages which are exported to an inexpensive Android tablet used by the client to execute the communication pages.

A communication page consists of an optional background image and multiple hotspots. 

A hotspot can perform 1 or more of the following actions:

• speak text
• transition to a different page 
• perform home automation tasks
